Disc of five


What does the disk of five mean?
The new disk of five (2016) is a useful tool for anyone who wants to eat healthily.
The recommendations are based on the Good Nutrition Guidelines and have been translated into foods.

The disc of five was already introduced in 1953 and at the time contained the following groups of foods:
  1. Vegetables, fruit and potatoes
  2. Grain and cereal products.
  3. Meat, fish, cheese, eggs and legumes
  4. Fats
  5. Milk and milk products
The disk of five was no longer used over the years.
A new disc was presented at the end of 2004 with the following groups:
  1. Vegetables and fruit
  2. Bread, pasta, legumes and potatoes
  3. Dairy, meat (s), fish, egg and meat substitutes
  4. Fats and oil
  5. Moisture
In addition, this disk of five also gave vfive rules or recommendations:
- Eat a varied diet
- Don't eat too much & exercise
- Use less saturated fat
- Eat lots of vegetables, fruit and bread
- Handle food safely

In 2016 a revised disc of five was released.

It is advised to eat smaller portions and not too much sugar, salt and saturated fat.
The emphasis is on reducing (processed or not) meat,more nuts, eggs and vegetarian products.
Finally, it is important to eat fiber-rich food: lots of vegetables, fruit and whole-grain products.
